About the Workshop
The recently drafted National Intellectual Property Rights Policy released in May 2016 by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Government of India has clearly stated the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in realizing and enabling sharing of the social and economic benefits of novel innovations with citizens of the nation. The policy strongly encourages entrepreneurs and startups to identify and create IP based on their technology and products and leverage on them to reach our new markets and raise funds for expansion. However in reality, currently only very few entrepreneurs and startups understand the processes and procedures for identifying and filing a patent and further commercializing a granted patent.
Considering these gaps AIC-NMIMS Incubation Centre (the first Atal Incubation Centre established in Maharashtra with support of NITI Aayog) in partnership with Khurana & Khurana (one of India's renowned law firms that specializes in Intellectual Property) are organizing a one day session on understanding essentials of IP for entrepreneurs and startups, so they can gather basic skill sets related to identifying and defining IP and use the knowledge for strategizing on technology and product development. The workshop is meant to be introductory in nature and will not be able to cover topics in-depth.
The workshop is scheduled to be organized in 2 sessions: the fist half will comprise of talks and presentations covering basic aspects of patents and trademarks (and other forms of IP) while the second half will comprise of hands-on training for searching patents and trademarks using key words and classification, understanding patentability of a technology/product and end with a Q&A session.
